Highline Horses

Session I: Introduction to Horsemanship

Age: 5-9 years old
Discipline: English and Western (primarily Western)
Previous Experience: None Required
Activities: Kids attending this session will get to try both English and Western, culminating in a trail ride at the end of the week. They will learn by means of games on horseback and arena-based activities, as well as classroom learning about basic aspects of horse husbandry: breeds, colors, markings, parts of the saddle, etc. On horseback, kids will learn to stop, walk, turn, etc. with a little bit of trotting.

Tentative Dates for 2010: June 7th-11th, 9:00am-12:00pm
Cost: $300, $50 discount for providing your own horse.

Session II: Introduction to Horsemanship

Age: 10-14 years old
Discipline: English and Western
Previous Experience: None Required
Activities: This camp covers the same knowledge and skills as Session I.

Tentative Dates for 2010: 14th-18th, 9:00am-12:00pm
Cost: $300, $50 discount for providing your own horse.

Session III: Western: Introduction to Western Pleasure, Reining, and Gymkhana

This camp is for kids ages 10-14 with previous riding experience. We will work on all aspects of Western showing: showmanship, Western pleasure, western riding, patterns, and an introduction to reining and gymkhana (western speed events). The week will also consist of classroom lessons and other activities such as swimming and field trips. At the end of camp we will have a practice Western show. This camp will help prepare 4-H kids competing in Level I and II for County Fair.

Cost: $600, $50 discount for providing your own horse.

Session IV: English: Introduction to English Riding, Jumping, and Dressage

This camp is for kids ages 10-14 with previous riding experience. We will work on all aspects of English showing: showmanship, English pleasure, equitation, patterns, and an introduction to jumping and dressage. The week will also consist of classroom lessons and other activities such as swimming and field trips. At the end of camp we will have a practice English show. This camp will help prepare 4-H kids competing in Level I and II for County Fair.
